Kikka Gin by Yucho Shuzo has always been beloved by gin enthusiasts, and their “Kaze no Mori” sake is a classic name in the world of Japanese sake. Though from the same company, the two brands have never crossed paths—until now. To celebrate the 5th anniversary of Kikka Gin, the long-awaited Kikka Gin × Kaze no Mori collaboration has arrived! The result is “Tokitsukaze,” limited to 1,350 bottles in a dark green stainless steel bottle.

Tokitsukaze builds upon Kikka Gin’s classic base of Yamato tangerine and angelica leaf, further enriched with Kaze no Mori sake lees and Nara-grown Nanko ume (plum). The bottle’s dark green color is inspired by the vibrant green of unripe Nanko plums—a thoughtful touch. While the distillery recommends mixing with tonic water, it’s also excellent neat.

On the nose and palate, the signature citrus note is beautifully complemented by the silky, rice-like aroma of daiginjo sake lees, giving the spirit a fuller, richer texture. Compared to the signature Kikka Gin, there’s no bitterness in the finish—just the soft, sweet fragrance of angelica and a mellow aftertaste.

When paired with a herbaceous tonic water, the plum notes become refreshingly prominent in the gin & tonic, a rare and delightful experience. Fruity and floral, the cocktail remains elegant and harmonious—a distinctively delicious drink!

The name “Tokitsukaze” (meaning “timely breeze”) often appears in Japanese weather reports, referring to a gentle, well-timed wind. Sipping this gin, you might just feel a warm, healing breeze under the setting sun.
