This sparkling wine is uniquely made by juicing white plums and fermenting them directly with wine yeast, a rare production method that has delighted many customers since its launch in May last year. It quickly gained a strong reputation, with many buying by the case. Originally in a 750ml bottle (great for groups), it is now available in a new 500ml size, perfect for sharing with a friend or enjoying solo.
Crafted from 100% Kyoto-grown Joushu white plums, this is a true "Plum Wine" in every sense. The taste features a delicate tartness from the plums, with bubbles that are just right—not too strong, not too weak—making it a pleasure for fans of sparkling wine or those who love the subtle aroma of plums.
Poured into a glass, the wine shines a pale champagne gold. The aroma blends light grape astringency, a hint of plum, and subtle mineral notes, offering nice complexity. On the palate, lively bubbles lead to a crisp grape tartness, a touch of white plum acidity in the middle, and a gentle plum sweetness on the finish that whets your appetite. The aftertaste returns to grape astringency, ending elegantly and smoothly, with a refreshing tang that pairs beautifully with food—tempura, white fish, or even Chinese cuisine.
Tanba Winery, established in 1979, strives to blend Kyoto’s culinary heritage with winemaking. Their innovative use of Kyoto’s Joushu white plums—distinct from the more common Nanko ume due to their higher acidity—is a smart match for this sparkling style.
