Revered as the "King of Grapes," the Kyoho grape is celebrated for its plump, succulent flesh. However, due to its exceptionally high water content, it is traditionally deemed unsuitable for winemaking. Yet, conventions are meant to be broken. This expression is crafted from 100% premium Kyoho grapes sourced from Kurume, Fukuoka, with absolutely zero additives—offering wine lovers a rare opportunity to experience an authentic Kyoho Rosé.
The visual presentation is striking. In contrast to the bottle's elegant, traditional Japanese exterior, the liquid inside is a dreamlike, pastel pink. As it glides into a champagne flute, white effervescence rises through the refreshing pink hue, turning the tasting into a therapeutic sensory journey.
On the nose, it offers an elegant, subtle bouquet of fresh strawberries and red berries. The palate is delightfully dry with a crisp, medium-high acidity and a comforting effervescence. The experience concludes with the rich, unmistakable fruitiness of Kyoho grapes lingering on the finish—making it an impeccable, mouth-watering aperitif for warm days.
Perfecting this craft was no small feat. Denbei Hayashida, the founder of Kyoho Winery in Fukuoka, spent a decade traveling across France just to discover a yeast strain capable of fermenting Kyoho grapes. Defying tradition, the winery shuns classic varieties like Merlot, choosing instead to focus on Kyoho, alongside award-winning expressions made from local blueberries and strawberries.
