Unlike conventional barrel-aged shochus that merely try to mimic western whisky, "KUN-KUN" utilizes peated whisky casks to achieve a singular, ultimate goal: creating the perfect liquid companion for Japanese Yakiniku (barbecue).

The creator, Kagoshima-based Komasa Shuzo, is a historic shochu house that expanded its liquid empire in 2017 by founding the now-legendary Kanosuke Distillery to produce authentic Japanese single malt whisky. Through this venture, the team gained profound, world-class expertise in cask management, directly inspiring the birth of KUN-KUN.

Neat, the nose opens with the comforting, sweet fragrance of traditional sweet potato, gradually unveiling a savory, slightly salty BBQ smoke in the background. The palate mirrors this transition—starting with rich potato notes that swiftly evolve into a bone-dry, smoky texture. The finish leaves a crisp, savory hint on the throat, curiously evoking memories of charcoal-grilled enoki mushrooms.

The distillery's ultimate signature serve is a highball—which boasts a certified, award-level "95.6% Compatibility Rating with Roasted Meat" in Japanese Yakiniku parlors.
