Following the celebrated releases of The First, Second, and Third Batch,
Nagahama Distillery continues its rapid and ambitious journey.
In 2024–2025, they unveiled The Fifth Batch —
arriving just six months after the previous edition,
with total production limited to only 3,000 bottles.
It’s clear that Nagahama aims to keep whisky lovers constantly inspired with fresh, small-batch creations.
This fifth release was distilled in 2020 and matured in a unique three-cask journey:
first in Islay quarter casks and American KOVAL barrels for 2 years and 8 months,
then finished for one year in a high-quality Oloroso Sherry Hogshead.
The result is a whisky of deep amber color and remarkable aromatic depth.
On the nose, it bursts with fresh orange and white peach, followed by candied apricot sweetness.
Mid-palate reveals warm layers of honey cake and maple pancake,
while the smooth mouthfeel carries gentle notes of nutmeg and clove.
The finish lingers gracefully with the dry tannic elegance characteristic of sherry cask aging.
Since its founding in 2016, Nagahama Distillery — Japan’s smallest whisky maker —
has spent over eight years refining its craft, balancing two creative pillars:
the World Blended “Amahagan” series, and a series of single-cask, small-batch whiskies like this one.
Each batch tells a story — one cask, one chapter — in Nagahama’s unfolding whisky journey.
