As the flagship masterpiece of Tatenokawa Shuzo's "Yoko Bar" series, Yoko Bar Yogurt Liqueur has long been celebrated as one of Japan's finest. However, the creator, Ms. Yoko, refused to rest on her laurels. She recently unveiled a brand-new expression: unlike the original, this version utilizes unpasteurized "Nama" (raw) yogurt and raises the yogurt content from 50% to a staggering 80%, capturing the ultimate, unadulterated freshness of the dairy.
The milky-white liquid glides into the glass like pure silk. The nose is greeted by the bright tartness of fresh yogurt and rich, sweet whole milk. On the palate, it is excessively creamy and ultra-velvety, immediately flooding the mouth with a perfectly balanced sweet-and-sour yogurt indulgence. While highly approachable, its ultra-dense, luxurious texture feels incredibly "Zeitaku" (extravagant).
This Nama version delivers a level of silkiness and raw freshness that far surpasses the standard release. Although the unpasteurized nature shortens its shelf life to three months, the breathtakingly vibrant flavor profile makes it absolutely worth it.
The origin of this liqueur stems from a "jealous accident"—its original Japanese name is Doronuma Yoko, which translates to "Yoko in the Mire." The story goes that Yoko was secretly infatuated with "Lemon Boy," who went on an overnight camping trip with another female friend. Though Yoko claimed she didn't care, her frustrated mind led her to accidentally dump an excessive amount of yogurt into the batch, creating a texture as thick as mud. Ironically, this aggressively rich flavor proved wildly addictive. The word Doronuma (Mire/Swamp) beautifully describes both the liqueur's signature viscosity and Yoko’s own deeply entangled emotions.
