There is a popular saying: "Clearly able to rely on looks, yet choosing to rely on talent." This could not be a more accurate description of the masterpiece introduced today.
Traditionally, when distilleries release novelty ceramic bottles, they rarely fill them with top-tier liquid. The logic is simple: collectors buying decorative decanters prioritize display over consumption and rarely open them. Therefore, allocating a highly prized single cask whisky to such releases makes little commercial sense.
However, Nagahama Distillery completely defies this industry norm. Following their viral 2024 debut collaboration with the classic bar manga Bar Lemon Heart—which featured an 8-year Mizunara single cask—they return in 2026 with a sensational second edition. This time, the iconic bartender figurine sports a sleek blue vest, housing a liquid configuration that is arguably more luxurious than the vast majority of Nagahama’s standard single casks.
Distilled in 2018, the spirit was first matured in an Islay Quarter Cask for 4 years, before undergoing a meticulous 3-year finish in premium French Sauternes sweet white wine casks. Bottled at a powerful cask strength of 57% ABV, this release is strictly limited to 288 bottles worldwide.
The nose opens with ripe peach and rich honey, accented by a vibrant hint of tart pineapple. On the palate, the texture is beautifully refined and silky, delivering intense waves of honey and vanilla. This is followed by evolving layers of ripe orchard fruits, toasted brioche, citrus zest, and dried apricot, culminating in an exceptionally long, complex finish. It is, without a doubt, a single cask handpicked by master blenders for its flawless quality.
