Deep within the rural town of Marumori in Miyagi Prefecture, travelers will find ancient stone monuments hidden along mountain paths, dedicated to the "Cat Gods" or intricately carved with feline imagery.

During the Edo Period, Marumori thrived as a prosperous sericulture (silkworm farming) hub, which unfortunately attracted massive swarms of destructive rodents. To protect their precious silkworms, households began breeding cats, resolving the pest crisis almost overnight. In profound gratitude, the villagers deified their feline companions as "Cat Gods" upon their passing, erecting stone shrines throughout the region. Today, eighty-eight of these historic monuments stand preserved, transforming the town into a sacred pilgrimage site for cat lovers worldwide.

In 2025, a brand-new distillery opened in this feline sanctuary, launching its debut craft gin. The spirit is distilled with zesty yuzu, locally handpicked bamboo leaves, mulberry leaves, sweet honey, and classic juniper, targeting a relaxing and comforting aroma. Naturally, the label pays homage to the local Cat God heritage. For every single bottle sold, the distillery actively donates a portion of the proceeds to local stray cat rescue organizations.

On the nose, the gin bursts with lively yuzu citrus, backed by the crisp, green freshness of tender bamboo leaves. The palate harmoniously blends bright citrus zest with earthy, herbal notes from the mulberry and bamboo, concluding with a warm, comforting note of natural honey on the finish.
