The name may sound mysterious, but “Kinmokusei” refers to osmanthus, or sweet olive blossom, in Japanese. In Japanese culture, kinmokusei represents modesty and the memory of first love—its fragrant aroma is unforgettable, much like a first romance. This liqueur captures that spirit with a delicate yet lingering floral bouquet.
On the nose, it opens with elegant osmanthus fragrance, layered with hints of peach and dried apricot. The palate is silky and smooth, with the floral sweetness beautifully balanced by subtle fruit notes. The finish lingers with osmanthus aroma, inviting another sip—though be mindful of its 16% ABV, which hides behind the gentle taste.
Try it with tonic water: the bubbles lift the floral notes, enhancing the refreshing osmanthus flavor while moderating the sweetness. The drink becomes light, aromatic, and dangerously easy to enjoy.
“Chokai” refers to the historic Chokai Site in Kanegasaki, Iwate, where Kanesaki Herb Distillery cultivates many of its own ingredients. Despite a short history of just three years, the distillery continues to impress with creative and delicious releases.
A rare and beautifully aromatic osmanthus liqueur—don’t miss it if you love floral flavors!
