The 31st release of Kiinobi Gin brings two innovations:
-
It is the first in the series to state an aging period of over four years—making it the longest-aged Kiinobi to date.
-
It is also the first to be matured in barrels from Sauternes, France—renowned for their luxurious, sweet dessert wines made from noble rot grapes.
Developed in collaboration with the acclaimed California retailer K & L Wine Merchants, only 300 bottles were released in the US and 361 in Japan—instantly selling out in both markets.
The extended barrel aging gives the gin a deep amber color. On the nose, expect a sweet burst of muscat grape, blackcurrant, and oak, with bold fruit aromas and less prominent juniper. The palate is notably sweet, with layers of citrus, oak tannins, and a subtle grape-skin astringency—almost reminiscent of fine Cognac. The finish features lingering spice notes of sansho pepper, shiso, bamboo leaf, and cardamom.
This edition is named after the Noh mask “Sanko-jō,” traditionally used to represent gruff old men in Japanese theater. The mask originated with master mask-maker Sanko-bō during the Muromachi period.
