Who exactly is “Okuhida” and why is their sake so special? Previously, we introduced one of their yuzu liqueurs, which everyone who tried absolutely loved—prompting lots of repeat orders. Given the excitement, we decided to sample their umeshu… and it turned out to be just as delightful!
The aroma is light and slightly tart, with a hint of green plum. The body is full and well-rounded, with a beautifully balanced acidity and sweetness—never cloying. As you swallow, the lingering finish features the signature tartness of green ume, delivering a uniquely fresh and pure taste. It’s rare to encounter an umeshu that intentionally highlights the tart, astringent notes of green plums—this one feels genuinely pure and true.
Okuhida Shuzo, located in Gifu Prefecture, has been brewing for 300 years, with flagship sake brands “Okuhida” and “Hatsumidori.” This umeshu is made with their sake as the base, using green plums grown locally in Gifu. Although it’s their very first umeshu, its taste is already remarkably refined and distinctive.
