In a time when AI is almost replacing humans, peeling yuzu and squeezing juice should naturally be done by machines. Yet Japanese brewers believe that machines tend to over-press the fruit, extracting excessive bitterness from the peel. Therefore, they insist on peeling and squeezing every yuzu entirely by hand, keeping bitterness to a minimum. The juice is then blended with sake and rice shochu, creating this handcrafted “Hand-Squeezed Yuzu Liqueur”.
Opening the bottle, a gentle yuzu aroma flows out—simple, but increasingly fragrant. The palate is smooth and soft, bursting with fresh yuzu character, almost like biting into fresh fruit. Medium sweetness, bright citrus, and remarkably no bitterness. The finish is refreshing and pleasantly acidic, inviting sip after sip—an easy-drinking yuzu liqueur that everyone can enjoy.
The artistic label depicts “Issunbōshi,” a Japanese folktale hero only three centimeters tall who never grows, sailing in a bowl, rowing with chopsticks, and using a needle as a sword. He eventually defeats the ogre, protects Princess Haruhime, and marries her in Kyoto.
This liqueur is produced by Muromachi Shuzo, the oldest sake brewery in Okayama with over 330 years of history. Known as experts of Omachi-rice sake and decorated with numerous international awards, their exceptional skill clearly shows in this handcrafted yuzu liqueur—full of warmth, tradition, and human touch.
