Have you ever tried Kikka Gin with perilla and matcha flavors? The product introduced this time is named after Abe no Seimei, the number one onmyoji in Japan in ancient times. Only 1,000 bottles were distilled exclusively on the Mid-Autumn Festival full moon night in 2021. It is not only very gimmicky, but the taste is also extremely ∙ strange ∙ and ∙ delicious!
ONMYOJI, WHICH REFERS TO THE OFFICIAL POSITIONS IN ANCIENT JAPAN SPECIFICALLY RESPONSIBLE FOR ASTRONOMY, DIVINATION, AND FENG SHUI. AMONG THE ONMYOJI THROUGH THE AGES, "ABU ASAMORI" IS THE MOST WELL-KNOWN. HE WAS PROFICIENT IN DIVINATION TECHNIQUES AND WON THE TRUST OF THE EMPEROR. HE WAS THE ONMYOJI WITH THE HIGHEST OFFICIAL RANK AND GREATEST POWER IN JAPANESE HISTORY. DUE TO HIS HIGHLY MYSTERIOUS NATURE, THE CHARACTER "ABU ASAMORI" OFTEN APPEARS IN MODERN JAPANESE ANIME AND GAMES, ENJOYING CONSIDERABLE FAME.
THE "ABE MONJUIN" IN NARA IS ONE OF THE OLDEST TEMPLES IN JAPAN AND ALSO THE BIRTHPLACE AND SITE FOR STAR-GAZING AND DIVINATION OF " ABE SEIMEI". 2021 MARKS THE 1100TH ANNIVERSARY OF "ABE SEIMEI'S" BIRTH. TO CELEBRATE THIS OCCASION, THE TEMPLE SPECIALLY INVITED YAMATO DISTILLERY IN NARA TO DEVELOP A BRAND-NEW WORK - "SEIMEI".
"Seimei" features ingredients beyond the signature Yuzu of Kikka Gin and Angelica leaves, incorporating Red Perilla known for its "demon-quelling" effects, and Yamato Matcha powder exclusively served to visitors at the "Abe Benzaiten Temple." This product was distilled only on the night of the full moon during the Mid-Autumn Festival of 2021, and after its production was completed, it also received special blessings from the temple.
Let's give this Gin a try. The aroma is a distinct perilla fragrance, backed by the classic citrus tang of Kikka Gin, accompanied by the refreshing sensation of matcha. Upon tasting, a hint of perilla's herbal flavor is followed by the fruit acidity and the slight bitterness of matcha powder, which lingers until the finish. The overall feeling is very oriental and fits perfectly with the theme of this "Temple Crossover"!
In terms of packaging, "Seimei" still uses the classic white porcelain bottle of Kikka Gin, but the original Kikka Gin logo has been changed to the iconic five-pointed star family crest of "Abeno Seimei", symbolizing exorcism and the five elements. Each bottle of liquor also comes with a specially designed wooden coaster. The product is packaged with special patterned paper from "Abeno Manjusri Temple", making it very suitable for both gifting and personal use.
