In 2025, as the World Expo takes place in Osaka, Suntory — also headquartered in Osaka — unveils Osaka Origin, a limited-edition plum liqueur crafted to the highest standards as a showcase of Japanese blending mastery.

Its composition is extraordinary:
1️⃣ Malt whisky aged in plum wine casks
2️⃣ Plum liqueur matured at Yamazaki Distillery
3️⃣ Suntory’s own well-aged brandy
The whisky and brandy bring depth and complexity, while the plum liqueur adds elegance and approachability.

The bottle design incorporates the artistry of Izumi Tonbodama (dragonfly glass beads), a traditional Osaka craft over a thousand years old. Each bead is unique, with its jewel-like clarity enclosing miniature worlds within. Suntory reflects this heritage by placing a “glass jewel” on the box and decorating the cap with bead-like patterns — making the presentation as refined as the liquid itself.

According to Suntory, the aroma is rich, mellow, and profoundly elegant with ripe plum character. The palate is smooth and full-bodied, where long-matured malt whisky weaves into the plum sweetness for a harmonious balance. The finish is graceful, lingering, and warm.

With both Suntory and Izumi Tonbodama rooted in Osaka, this Osaka Origin release is clearly crafted as a once-in-a-lifetime showcase of craftsmanship for the World Expo.
